We are named after Stephen, considered the first martyr of the Christian Church.
Stephen, a member of the early Christian community in Jerusalem was named as a Deacon. As a Deacon, Stephen had the responsibility to make sure that widows in the community were not neglected in the daily distribution of food.
St. Stephen's Lutheran Church continues to carry on that responsibility to feed the hungry. The LCS Food Pantry at St. Stephen's is Delaware's largest food pantry. It is open five days a week and serves 800-1000 families each month.
During the period of shelter-in-place, St. Stephen's offers on-line worship opportunities, both Sunday morning and Wednesday Evening. Book discussions, adult forum and other opportunities are also available. Please see our list of upcoming events.
As the situation allows, we will again offer community activities such as Coffee for Peace and Empty Bowl Dinner.
