From the ELCA’s website:

“‘God’s work. Our hands.’ Sunday is Sunday, September 8, 2019. This day is an opportunity to celebrate who we are as the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America – one church, freed in Christ to serve and love our neighbor.

Service activities offer an opportunity for us to explore one of our most basic convictions as Lutherans: that all of life in Jesus Christ – every act of service, in every daily calling, in every corner of life – flows freely from a living, daring confidence in God’s grace.

You work every day to make your community a better place. Let us continue doing this work together in 2019!”

Since 2013 the ELCA has been engaging in setting aside one Sunday a year where the entire church comes together through service projects, park and neighborhood cleaning, advocacy, and other ways of engaging in God's world. This year, St. Stephen’s will be setting aside our coffee hour and going outside to help tidy up our little corner of Trolley Square - 13th and Broom. In addition we will also help to clean up the lawns of our neighbor’s across the street and the parking lot of the dentist’s office as well.

The church will provide the trash cans and garbage bags - please bring gloves if you wish.

Living in the city and having such an active food pantry leaves us a lot of trash blowing around outside. Let’s be good neighbors and good stewards of God’s world and clean up a bit for the fall. Please consider joining us Sunday - perhaps invite a friend!

Yours in Christ,
Pastor Jason
